If you’ve never used a foil, spend 10 or 15 minutes riding it with your hands. Place your hands where your feet would be and ride from side to side of the dock.
- Let the board go down, and push it up with just the pressure of your hands.
- Turn the board while riding when you reach the end of the dock.
- Change the position of your hands to see the difference.
- Apply pressure with your hands to feel how it holds more weight depending on the speed until you almost have your torso lying on the board.
- Lower the board into the water and try to raise it by pushing back, or raising the bow.
- Put your weight on the board to feel how it holds your weight.
- Repeat the same thing with just one hand.
You should do this at least in your first and second session.
