In my 16th session I did a test of changing the wing of my Gong Allvator Rise XXL, for the Gong X-over XL. The change was not very abrupt, on the third attempt I managed to tame it and pump in the same style. But I noticed some differences:
- When pumping it went to the sides more easily, so constant corrections had to be made, I suppose due to its smaller wingspan (90cm vs 100cm).
- When for some reason you lose speed when pumping it is more difficult to gain speed again.
- When pumping it loses height faster, so I was forced to increase the pumping frequency a little to get the same result.
- Because it has a smaller wingspan, less area and less thickness I thought it would be faster, but then I checked in the videos the time it took to do the same route and it gave the exact seconds.
Sizes:
- Wingspan: Rise XXL 100 cm, and X-over XL 90
- Area: Rise XXL 2500 cm2, and X-over XL 1900 cm2
- Thickness: Rise XXL 3.5 cm, and X-over XL 2.9 cm
I think I could have learned with it but by maintaining less height, each attempt would have always been a bit shorter, therefore I would have had less time to get the feeling of the foil and in the end this would have meant more sessions to reach the same goals.
