You will see people recommending the best foil to start with, very expensive and sophisticated. If you can afford it, go ahead, but you don’t need that much.
You will also see that there are thousands of brands, at this level they don’t matter much but in Spain you see a lot of them and they offer a good quality-price ratio, the Gong brand.
There are very good and expensive foil materials with carbon, titanium… but you won’t need that to start with, the cheapest aluminium ones will do. Once again it won’t be the most efficient but to start with the difference won’t be important, the first 2 sessions will be a disaster even if you take the best plane on the market.
The hydrofoil consists of the front wing, the rear wing (or stabilizer), the fuselage (the part that joins the two wings), the mast and the base of the mast. When you are starting out, the fuselage and the rear wing are not important, take the ones that the manufacturer offers as standard with that model and don’t complicate things right now. Don’t take the stabilizer either, take the one that your manufacturer recommends (for surf or wing) depending on the size of the wing you are using (if your foil is a gong low aspect, check this out). You will have time to go into those details when you pump well and want to optimize distances or speed.
If you buy second hand, I recommend buying the complete foil at once and not in parts (wings, fuselage, mast). It is very likely that it will be cheaper and you will not risk having problems with incompatibilities between parts, which sometimes occur even in the same manufacturer.
