In my 16th session, I tried to change the stabilizer of my Gong Allvator rise XXL, for the stabilizer of the Gong Allvator X-Over of equivalent size, keeping the front wing of the rise version. I didn’t expect a big change or I even expected to be worse because they were two different models but the change was noticeable and quite noticeable.
The foil pumping was more stable, the foil was much straighter without having to correct small deviations to the sides, which is common for someone who knows how to pump but still doesn’t do it efficiently, something that saved me energy. Although it helped in going straight, I didn’t notice any noticeable difference and I could turn just as easily.
The theoretical sizes are quite similar:
- Area: 400cm2 in the rise, and 350cm2 in the x-over
- Wingspan: 45cm in the rise and 46cm in the x-over
But the shape has nothing to do with it:
- In the rise the tips end downwards, whereas in the x-over they end upwards, becoming vertical.
- The part that is connected to the fuselage is a few centimetres longer in the x-over as can be seen in the photo where one is on top of the other.
- Also, regarding the fuselage, the x-over is right at the top, whereas in the rise it is one centimetre below.
- I don’t know which of these details make the difference, but there is a big difference. So much so that I think I will never use the fuselage of the Rise version again.
