In my 14th session I bought a Gong Kiwii 3’1″ kite board, but with very similar characteristics to the Gong Kluber 95. From what I’m told, the Kluber has a slightly flatter deck and that should be better for pumping, but I don’t notice it at first glance.
The best thing about it is that I can ride barefoot without slipping thanks to the fact that it is completely covered with EVA foam. Foil surfboards, on the other hand, usually slip, and you have to put surfer wax on the surface, which is fine for normal surfing, but for pumping I don’t really feel the perfect grip with wax.
I’m not sure if it’s because of the EVA foam or because I’m barefoot, but with this board I can correct the position of my foot when I’m on the board very easily.
In theory, because it’s more rigid because it’s made of carbon, pumping is more efficient, but as I’m in a continuous process of improvement, I couldn’t say how much is thanks to the carbon and how much to my progress. When I’m a little more stable, I’ll try the board again. I’ll try to get a surf foil to see if I can see the difference and I’ll update this article.
The downside of the kite board is that since it has fewer liters, it’s harder to swim back to the dock. It also has a hard time staying horizontally on the water when I’m not on it to move it, but that’s the least important thing.
