To master the trick of getting on your knees on the board, follow the three tips for all freestyle tricks (do it right out of the gate, get a lot of speed, and stay high on the mast). At least at first, it helps a lot to keep the pump rhythm going.
The pump consists of two phases: pressure and lift. The sequential steps would be:
- Pressure
- Lift. I intuitively turn my front foot slightly so it’s pointing a little straighter forward, otherwise, without moving it from its position.
- Pressure. We place our hands on the board at the toe of our front foot, just as we apply pressure.
- Lift. We hold this position with our hands still on the board.
- Pressure. We get on our knees, this time applying pressure with our knees instead of our feet.
- Lift. We lift our knees as we take our weight off the board.
- Pressure. Your feet make contact with the board again. At this point, you take your hands off the board and stand up.
