After learning the Minitomahawk, it was time to learn the tomahawk. It’s practically the same, but with the board placed overhead, aside from being eye-catching, I don’t see any advantage over other drop-starts.
The steps to follow are:
- In this case, I like to start one step further back than in the Minitomahawk, so I stand in the corner and take three steps back, staying in front with the foot I put forward as I pump.
- I raise the board onto the hull, holding it with my right hand behind me and my left hand on the side, as in the other drop-start variations.
- To start, I take two steps forward while gently lowering the board.
- After the first step, the body and board position are almost the same as the start of the Minitomahawk.
- So we finish the same way, with one more step on the edge of the pier and another step, continuing along the pier, to place the back foot on the board.
- If the board has launched properly, as in other drop start variations, slightly forward and touching the water with the foil flat or the front wing slightly before the stab, everything will be fine with a normal pump.
