The twister start consists of a drop start with the board upside down in your hands and twisting it before hitting the water. Personally, I don’t see any advantage to it over the mini-tomahawk, but I’ve seen some people prefer it, and it’s great for practicing and seeking out new challenges.
The steps to follow are:
- Stand one step back from the corner of the dock, putting your rear pumping foot forward (as in the mini-tomahawk).
- Place the board upside down to one side (left if you’re goofy and right if you’re regular). Grab the board from behind with your right hand if you’re goofy, and in the middle with your left hand.
- Propel yourself forward by taking a single step at the corner of the dock with what will be your front pumping foot.
- At the same time, with your hands, begin to rotate the board in the air and steer it forward, first releasing your front hand and holding the hand holding the rear of the board to give it the necessary height so the stab doesn’t hit the water too soon before the front wing. And to give it a little forward speed.
- Step on the board first with your back foot, and then with your front foot, continuing the steps you started on the dock.
